Sharkey’s Cuts for Kids: Fun for Everyone
Debra Thompson and her husband, Trevor, grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa, and first visited Charlotte in 2016 when their son, a professional supercross/motocross racer, was spending time here training. The couple immigrated to the Queen City in 2018, and today their oldest son attends UNC Charlotte while their younger son continues to race professionally.
“We just liked it,” Debra Thompson says. “The greenery reminded us a bit of South Africa.”
In South Africa, Debra owned a small business that handled corporate clothing and promotional items, while Trevor had been a partner in a successful IT company. The couple had always dreamed of owning a successful business in the U.S. and began looking for opportunities in Charlotte. By the spring of 2019, they had purchased Sharkey’s Cuts for Kids at Promenade on Providence.
Sharkey’s Cuts for Kids provides a fun and different experience for parents and kids. While getting a haircut from warm, experienced stylists, children can watch their favorite cartoons or Netflix while sitting in novelty chairs designed to look like a miniature fire truck, police cruiser, a Batman car or a jeep from the movie Frozen.
“We liked that Sharkey’s focuses on giving kids and parents a fun, affordable and memorable haircut experience in a nice, fun and clean salon atmosphere,” Thompson says. “We love the interaction with the clients.”
Sharkey’s also provides gaming stations for kids to enjoy as well as a “Tween Lounge” with services such as a Mini Mani, Glam haircuts, before/after photos, make-up lessons and more.
“We’re very proud to have the only Sharkey’s Cuts for Kids location in Charlotte at Promenade on Providence,” said Katie Roberts, property manager at Childress Klein. “Debra and her staff do a great job of providing a memorable haircut experience that the whole family can enjoy.”
Top seller: Thompson says that Sharkey’s scented shampoo and conditioners (grape, apple and banana scents) are very popular with the kids.Share:
