The Tutoring Link was started five years ago out of a love for teaching and learning. Owner Laurel Davis wanted a way to reach students with diverse learning needs and provide a safe space for them to learn and grow in ways that work best for them. With 20 years of experience in teaching and tutoring, Laurel has taught grades K-5 and was a special education teacher. She is also a certified Orton Gillingham instructor and has degrees in Psychology and Education.
Prior to opening The Tutoring Link, Laurel was tutoring, teaching yoga and being a mom. For a while she traveled to students’ homes and eventually gained so many students that moving to an office made more sense for her business. She was also able to hire more teachers with backgrounds in other areas such as math, speech therapy and SAT prep to help more students.

The Tutoring Link differs from their other tutoring companies because it is locally owned and not a chain tutoring center with a rigid curriculum. It is a dedicated small business that formats sessions based on students’ needs, with a group of experienced educators who want to make a positive impact through specialized, individualized instruction for each student. Lessons are taught using explicit instruction in a structured, sequential and systematic hands-on approach. The Tutoring Link recognizes each child as a unique learner and personalizes each lesson to best meet their needs and learning preferences.
Laurel’s favorite thing about being at Promenade is being so close to The Local Scoop. She says that Promenade is a wonderful, convenient location where they are able to offer services to a wide area of families. She loves the green space as well – it’s a great spot to do some outdoor learning activities.
