Hickory & Heart: A New Name for a Promenade Favorite

After 18 years of serving up slow-smoked barbecue and welcoming guests like family, the restaurant long known as Q Shack is stepping into a new chapter as Hickory & Heart. While the name is new, the flavors, the team and the hospitality that have made this spot a Promenade on Providence staple remain the same.
We sat down with the team behind the rebrand to talk about what inspired the change, what it means for longtime guests, and why the heart of the restaurant hasn’t changed at all.

What inspired the new name Hickory & Heart?
After 18 years under that name, we felt it was time for a change. We wanted something that better reflects the people at the heart of what we do: our customers, our team and our family.
What does the new name say about the kind of food and experience you want people to have here?
Made with love and served with gratitude. Every day, we slow-smoke our meats in-house and handcraft our sides using fresh, local ingredients.
How has the restaurant grown or changed since the days of The Q Shack?
That’s just it, nothing has changed except for the name. We have great food and great service, but the most important part is our people… both our team and our customers — they’re truly the heart behind this business and that will always be the case.
What do you hope guests feel when they walk into Hickory & Heart?
We would like people to come in as guests and leave as family.
What’s one thing longtime customers might be surprised to learn about the rebrand?
Change isn’t typically easy, but once we made the decision to rebrand, what followed came naturally and just fit!
